Fiona Farmer Physiotherapist

Fiona has been a Physiotherapist for 20 years, specialising in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Sports injuries. She qualified in Nottingham in 1986 and worked within the National Health Service in various posts until 1992. Shortly after qualifying, Fiona became involved in sports Physiotherapy and was Physiotherapist to the British Paralympic Association, attending Paralympic Games in Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta as well as many other trips with teams abroad.

After a period working at the National Sports Centre, Bisham Abbey, she travelled to New Zealand for 3 months to study at the world-famous Mckenzie Institute and now holds a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (one of around 20 people in the UK to do so). McKenzie Therapy is a much researched and validated method of treating back, neck and joint pain by putting the patient at the centre of the treatment and where possible using exercise and posture to produce long-term, lasting, independent relief from pain and disability.

Fiona lectured for the McKenzie Institute both in the UK and worldwide for 10 years and she remains Associate Faculty with the Institute.

Fiona has also practised Acupuncture for 17 years and continues to update her knowledge and skills on a regular basis. She is a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, a body who regulate and train practitioners. Acupuncture can be useful for pain relief in a wide range of conditions from headache and migraine to arthritic knees and other joints and can be useful when used in connection with other therapies.

Fiona is currently undertaking a part-time MSc in Professional Studies through the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and has completed studies in Bowen Therapy, she is on the European Bowen therapist register. Bowen Therapy is a gentle remedial therapy of muscle rolling which has been shown to produce benefit in a wide range of conditions from aches and pains in joints and spine to asthma, hay-fever, jaw problems, chronic fatigue, bed-wetting and sinus problems.

Fiona is skilled in all aspects of Rehabilitation from post-operative care to back pain, manipulation, Clinical Pilates and core stability training as well as sports injuries and chronic conditions.

Fiona is registered with the Health Professions Council, a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice, the Society of Orthopedic Medicine and the McKenzie Institute Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy Practitioners.
